Hayfever

Hayfever is very much a 20th century disease.  It was much less common 100 years ago, even though far more people lived on farms close to the grasses and pollens that trigger off the well-known irritation.  Hayfever is an allergy affecting the nose and eyes; its causes is a weakened immune system.  It can be an extremely stubborn ailment to treat since a permanent cure depends on raising the quality of the immune system.  A professional Homeopath can do this through constitutional treatment; even so, it may take 2 or 3 sessions to eradicate the problem completely.

Hayfever requires detailed specific prescribing of the "right" homeopathic remedy.

Trial and error or shotgun prescribing does not work, and therefore we don't recommend self-medication. In fact, self-medication will complicate the overall symptom picture.

Allium cepa - This remedy is made from the red onion, so most of us have experienced its symptoms.  They include a streaming nose with a burning discharge, and watery, stinging eyes with bland secretions. You may experience violent sneezing and a tickling cough.

Euphrasia - This remedy has a special affinity with the eyes, so it is most suitable when your eyes cause you he biggest problem.  The symptoms of Euphrasia are the converse of Allium cepa; the tears burn, but the secretions from the nose are bland.

Arsenicum - Use Arsenicum when the mucous membranes of the eyes and nose are affected and the secretions are extremely acrid.  The nose produces a tin, watery discharge, but can also feel stuffed up, a similar feeling to the onset of a cold.  You sneeze without relief.

Sabadilla - Use Sabadilla to ease continuous and violent sneezing and frustrating itching and tickling of the nose.  One nostril may be blocked up while the other streams perhaps worsened by the smell of flowers.  You eyes also water and burn.
